So I'm in the process to get hired with a PD in my area. I'm through the written, oral, and physical tests, along with the poly. I'm a month into the background check. My background detective told me yesterday that the background process will take another month or so. Then comes the conditional offer, the psych test, and the medical exam.

I'm worried about the psych test. No, I'm not crazy, but another guy I know who I have no reason to believe is crazy recently failed it. He said it was a 400 question test and the inkblot session. Any tips? Are you supposed to see things in the inkblots and are you supposed to see want they want (ie the correct answer is a bunny but you see a car)?

Not knowing which test you will be given, I'll give some general tips.

Leaving a lot of questions unanswered will result in a trip to the shrink for eval.

Be consistent in your answers. If you have thought about killing youself, and you answer so, do so on the other 20 questions asking the same thing.

If you never looked at your crap in the stool, how will you know what the color was? Again be consistent with your answers.

No clue on the ink blots, been a while since I've done those.

For the 400 question written test, answer honestly. They will ask true or false questions like,"I have gotten in a fist fight at work in the last year," and ,"I have never taken somethign that doesn't belong to me." Just be honest, becuase these tests have a scoring system that indicates if someone is trying to give the 'right' answers.

The inkblot test is actually a fairly scientific endeavor. Instead of the psychiatrist determining what you 'should' see, they use sceintific research. That is, when you see the ink blot, the doc writes down all your responses. Then, she looks in a book that contains all the recorded responses of tens of thousands of people. This lists what other people saw, and breaks the responses down into something like 'common', 'uncommon', and 'psycho.' What the test reveals is that you see something that other people with certain traits saw.
If you see a bunny, then the book will show how common that response is. It will also say, for example, that 85% of the people that saw a bunny also tend to be sociopaths. That's an extreme example, but it should give you an idea of how it works.
In the old days, the ink blots were supposed to revel how you felt about your mother, father, etc. but no psychologist or psychiatrist should be using the Freudian method anymore.

yes alot of the questions asked of you are exactly the same quetions asked many times they are just worded a little different, They will try to trip you up on them. Just be honest on all of them and you should be ok.
Good Luck on the test. And remeber treat the ones you stop the way you would want to be treated on a road side stop.
